During the trip our tour guide will introduce you to the nature, history, customs and people of this part of Serbia.
The trip starts at 8 am.
Departure is from Belgrade.
We will have about an 1-hour drive to our first destination Smederevo Fortress.
Smederevo Fortress is a medieval Serbian capital on the banks of the Danube. After the death of Stefan Lazarević, despot Đurađ Branković could no longer keep Belgrade. In 1430, he moved the capital to Smederevo, because Belgrade belonged to the Hungarians. At that time, the Smederevo fortress, with its 25 huge towers, was one of the largest in Europe. The tour of the Smederevo fortress lasts about an hour.
After the Smederevo fortress tour we go to the Viminacium. A 45-minute journey is awaiting you.
Viminacium - the capital of the Roman province of Upper Moesia
Sightseeing tour of Viminacium, the most important and largest Roman city and military camp on the Danube, lasts 1 hour. Viminacium was inhabited by more than 10,000 inhabitants, while the military castrum had about 6,000 soldiers at the same time. At this archeological site, there is everything else that decorated a Roman city: baths, aquaducts, a gladiatorial arena, the tomb of the young emperor Hostilian, squares, mosaics.
From Viminacium to the Silver Lake you have a 45-minutes of a pleasent drive.
A break for lunch and rest. Silver Lake is one of the most popular in Serbia. In the second half of the day, when the sun begins to set behind the Carpathians, the sun's rays refract on the surface of the water and you get the impression that the lake is really silver. According to legend, that's how the lake got its name.
Golubac Fortress is located on the right bank of the Danube, at the entrance to the Djerdap National Park. Built on a small stone hill, it looks like it is rolled off a Homolje mountains, and the city walls seem to be fused with the natural environment. Nine massive towers, up to 25 meters high, unite the fortress and protect them from both the ground and the water.
Đerdap National Park
Djerdap National Park represents the unique natural and cultural-historical heritage of Serbia. From Golubac to Kladovo, the Danube flows through the most beautiful gorge in Europe - the Djerdap gorge. In the geological and morphological sense, this area is a real gem of our planet. The coastal belt of the Danube in the Đerdap gorge has been inhabited since the Neolithic. Many archeological sites testify to the continuity of life in it: starting from the monumental culture of Lepenski Vir (about 9,000 years old) through numerous monuments from the ancient period to medieval fortifications. Djerdap, known in the world as the Iron Gate, is a centuries-old challenge for travelers, traders and soldiers, because that is where the two extremely important cultural and economic worlds of the Middle and Lower Danube come into contact. From ancient times, Djerdap is considered a natural strategic point of great importance both during wars and in peacetime. For these reasons there are a huge number of historical monuments on Djerdap.
